8th Style Tango Mission Statement

Our mission is to seek out new tango enthusiasts who have not yet discovered tango, and take them on a journey to tango mastery.

About The 8th Style School of Tango

8th Style tango is a Tango collective founded by Jaimes Friedgen & Christa Rodriguez in 2006 in Seattle, WA. The 8th Style Tango method of teaching Tango is based on a curriculum that is designed to take a absolute beginning tango dancer and over the course of the curriculum cover the most basic, to the most modern and avante garde tango vocabulary and musicality. Since 2006, The 8th Style has inspired and influenced Oxygen Tango in L.A., the Los Angeles Tango Academy, and Mission Tango in San Francisco and has produced some of the best tango dancers, teachers, performers, and DJs the United States has to offer. The 8th Style is now offering tango in New Mexico, with classes in Albuquerque, Santa Fe, and Taos.

The Meaning of "The 8th Style"

The "8th Style" refers to an blog post by a local San Francisco tango aficionado who catalogued the separate styles of tango from Milonguero to Nuevo. The 8th style listed in the original post was Jaimes Friedgen. As a result the "8th Style" represents the drive to always be creative, with your own individual style and as tango instructors, it is our mission to not make copies of tango students that all look and feel the same, but to guide new and experienced dancers to find their own unique tango edge.
